An independent field guide to fishing in Los Angeles County — built by anglers, for anglers.
Fish in LA is a free reference for people who fish in and around Los Angeles County. It covers 45 saltwater and freshwater species and 50 waters — public piers and jetties, harbors, kelp beds, Catalina boat destinations, reservoirs such as Castaic and Pyramid, and the urban park lakes that the state stocks. Each species page explains habitat, techniques, and lures, and links to the places that hold the fish; each location page lists what is caught there, access notes, and nearby marine protected areas.
Fish in LA is an independent website. It is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the Fish and Game Commission, Los Angeles County, any city, or any landing or tackle company.
Regulations can change in-season, and emergency closures happen. This guide is for orientation only — always confirm current rules at wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing before you keep a fish. If you spot something out of date, please tell us and we will correct it.
