Who we are
Fish in LA (fishinla.com, "we," "us") is an independent, informational fishing guide to Los Angeles County, operated from California. The site is a static website: there are no user accounts, logins, comments, or payment forms. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@fishinla.com.
Information we collect
- Information you send us. If you email us — including by using the "LA Bite Report" subscribe box, which opens your own email app with a pre-filled message — we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you or to send the newsletter you asked for. We do not sell it. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically records standard request data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring page, date and time) for security and operation of the site.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Our advertising and analytics partners described below set cookies or use similar identifiers (such as device identifiers or local storage) in your browser.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The site is a general-audience fishing guide.
Advertising: Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. Ads are labeled "Advertisement."
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices (and, for vendors in the NAI program, optout.networkadvertising.org).
- If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized based on your browsing.
- Other certified ad vendors and ad networks may also serve ads through Google on this site and may use their own cookies.

Analytics: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-0DGLDYTBCC) to understand how visitors use the site — for example which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages visited, time on page, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from IP address. We use this only in aggregate to improve the guide. You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See also Google's Privacy Policy.
Embedded content and other third-party services
Some pages load content from other services, which may receive your IP address and set their own cookies under their own privacy policies:
- YouTube (owned by Google) — video players on the Local YouTubers page. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap — map tiles and embedded location maps. See the OSMF Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — web fonts used for the site's typography.
- cdnjs (Cloudflare) — delivers the Leaflet mapping library used by the fishing map.
- Wikimedia Commons — species photos are loaded from Wikimedia servers.
Links to outside sites (CDFW, landings, retailers, YouTube channels, Google Maps directions) take you to sites we do not control. Some links are plain gear search links to retailers such as Amazon. They are not affiliate links and we do not earn a commission from them, but the retailer may set its own cookies when you visit.
Your choices
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking cookies may affect how some embedded content works.
- Use the Google Ads Settings, aboutads.info, and Google Analytics opt-out links above.
- Ad blockers and privacy-focused browser settings, including Global Privacy Control, are respected by many of our partners.
Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland
Where required, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided through Google, before personalized ads or non-essential cookies are used. You can change your choice through that message.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act gives you rights regarding your personal information.
- Categories collected in the past 12 months: identifiers (IP address, cookie and device identifiers, and email address if you contact us); internet or other electronic network activity (pages viewed and interactions with ads); and approximate geolocation derived from IP address. Sources: you directly, your browser, and our advertising and analytics partners.
- Purposes: operating and securing the site, measuring audience, showing and measuring ads, and responding to you.
- Sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising: Allowing Google and other ad partners to set cookies for personalized ads may be considered "selling" or "sharing" personal information under California law. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
- Your rights: to know what personal information we have collected about you; to request deletion; to request correction; to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information; to limit use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect sensitive personal information); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
- How to opt out of sale/sharing: use Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info/choices, enable Global Privacy Control in your browser, or email us at hello@fishinla.com.
- How to make a request: email hello@fishinla.com. Because we do not run accounts, we may ask for information needed to locate records about you (for example, the email address you used to contact us). An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with your written permission. We will respond within the time required by law (generally 45 days).
- Retention: emails are kept only as long as needed to reply or to keep you on the newsletter list you requested. Analytics and advertising data retention is governed by Google's settings and policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site or our partners change. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest revision.
