The short version
The bay cooled a little and the counts look more like fall. NOAA's Santa Monica tide station logged hourly water temperatures between 70.2°F and 72.3°F from October 29 to November 4, averaging about 71.4°F, down from last week's 72.0°F average. The coolest day was November 2, when readings ran from 70.2°F to 71.8°F. Sculpin, sand bass, ocean whitefish and rockfish led the local landings. Yellowtail and bonito were still mixed in, and skipjack tuna showed on a few three-quarter-day boats out of Marina del Rey. The only Redondo Beach Sportfishing trip listed in the window was the Navegante's two-day run, so its yellowtail and rockfish numbers are not a local half-day bite.
On the lakes, CDFW's Fish Planting Schedule still lists Los Angeles County trout plants for the week of November 1-7 at twelve waters, with Legg Lakes listed for the week of November 8-14.
Redondo Beach and King Harbor
Redondo Beach Sportfishing listed only one trip in the window: the Navegante's two-day trip that returned October 29 with 63 yellowtail, 55 rockfish, 30 ocean whitefish, 6 sheephead and 3 sculpin for 14 anglers. That is an overnight-or-longer count, not a King Harbor half-day. No local Redondo Special half-day trips showed up on SportfishingReport.com for October 30 through November 4.
The Redondo Beach Pier and the King Harbor breakwater are both CDFW public piers, so you don't need a license on the structure itself. The two-rod limit and all size and bag limits still apply.
Marina del Rey and Santa Monica Bay
Marina Del Rey Sportfishing listed trips on six days of the window: 14 trips and 366 anglers. Sculpin (California scorpionfish) led again with 607 reported, followed by 190 sand bass, 154 calico bass and 125 ocean whitefish. Rockfish added 110, and skipjack tuna reached 62. Yellowtail came to 23, with a handful of sheephead, bonito and lingcod.
The busiest recent day on the landing page was November 4, when three three-quarter-day boats ran. The New Del Mar reported 56 skipjack tuna, 48 sculpin, 14 sand bass, 13 yellowtail, 10 ocean whitefish and 2 calico bass for 59 anglers. The Betty-O reported 36 sand bass and 15 calico bass for 11 anglers. The Spitfire reported 24 sculpin, 2 calico bass and a skipjack for 10 anglers. Earlier in the window, October 29's two trips with 95 anglers reported 181 sculpin and 110 rockfish along with calico and sand bass, and October 31's three trips with 79 anglers reported 133 sculpin, 115 ocean whitefish, 48 sand bass and 43 calico bass. Sculpin are good eating, but their fin spines are venomous, so handle them with a rag or lip grips.
San Pedro and Long Beach
22nd Street Landing reported 8 trips and 180 anglers across six days. Ocean whitefish led at 480, with 350 rockfish, 169 calico bass, 80 bonito, 72 sheephead and 58 yellowtail. The landing also listed 172 bullet tuna, almost all on October 30, when three trips with 71 anglers reported 273 ocean whitefish, 200 rockfish, 172 bullet tuna, 78 calico bass and 55 yellowtail. Bullet tuna and the single yellowfin tuna that day usually point to longer trips mixed into the dock total, so treat that day as a mix of local and offshore fishing. Closer to shore, the Monte Carlo's November 4 morning half-day reported 44 ocean whitefish, 2 sculpin, 2 sheephead, a calico bass and a sand bass for 22 anglers. On November 1 one trip with 19 anglers reported 150 rockfish, 46 ocean whitefish, 38 vermilion rockfish and 18 sheephead.
Long Beach Sportfishing listed one trip a day from October 29 through November 3, 169 anglers in all, and nothing on November 4. Ocean whitefish led at 734, with 453 rockfish, 207 calico bass, 148 sheephead, 118 sand bass and 112 vermilion rockfish. The Victory's November 3 three-quarter-day trip is a good local snapshot: 71 ocean whitefish, 50 sand bass, 31 calico bass, 15 bonito, 15 rockfish, 15 sculpin, 6 sheephead, 3 skipjack tuna and a yellowtail for 44 anglers. Earlier, the October 31 trip reported 186 ocean whitefish, 102 rockfish, 40 sheephead and 34 vermilion rockfish for 20 anglers, and the November 2 trip reported 160 ocean whitefish, 68 sand bass and 41 calico bass for 32 anglers. Pierpoint Landing listed no trips in this window; its most recent posted count was still the Toronado's two-day return on October 25 from last week's report.
Tides for the week ahead
NOAA's predictions for its Los Angeles station (9410660) show morning highs near 6 feet and afternoon lows that drop below zero midweek. Thursday, November 5, has a 5.7-foot high at 6:28 AM and a 0.7-foot low at 12:52 PM. Friday, November 6, has a 6.0-foot high at 6:55 AM and a 0.2-foot low at 1:33 PM. Saturday, November 7, has a 6.2-foot high at 7:21 AM and a -0.2-foot low at 2:11 PM. Sunday, November 8, has a 6.3-foot high at 7:47 AM and a -0.4-foot low at 2:47 PM. Monday, November 9, has a 6.3-foot high at 8:12 AM and a -0.4-foot low at 3:23 PM. Those afternoon minus tides are useful for scouting rocks, reefs and surf troughs, and the incoming water after them is a good window for surf perch and sand-line fish. All times are Pacific Standard Time.
Lakes: trout plants are on the calendar
As of November 5, CDFW's Fish Planting Schedule lists Los Angeles County trout plants for the week of November 1-7, 2026, at Alondra Park Lake, Belvedere Lake, Cerritos Lake, Downey Wilderness Park Lake, Echo Park Lake, El Dorado Park Lakes, Hansen Dam Lake, Hollenbeck Park Lake, Kenneth Hahn Lake, La Mirada Lake, Lincoln Park Lake and Santa Fe Reservoir. Legg Lakes is listed for trout the week of November 8-14. The schedule still shows a catfish plant at Legg Lakes the week of October 11-17. CDFW publishes only the week of each plant, never the day, and every plant is subject to change.
Anyone 16 or older needs a California fishing license at every lake. Check our trout page and the live CDFW schedule before you go, since plants can move.
Rules worth a reminder
- Spiny lobster season is open, and CDFW requires a Spiny Lobster Report Card for everyone who goes after lobster, including kids under 16 and pier hoop-netters. Up to two hoop nets are allowed on a public pier.
- Rockfish, vermilion rockfish, bocaccio and lingcod fall under CDFW's groundfish rules, which change by season and depth. Check our rockfish page and CDFW's groundfish summary before you keep one.
- OEHHA advises everyone not to eat barred sand bass or white croaker caught along the coast from south of the Santa Monica Pier to the Seal Beach Pier.
- The public-pier license exemption covers the pier itself, not the sand next to it.
Fish names in the counts
Landings report dock names. "Sculpin" means California scorpionfish, "whitefish" is ocean whitefish, "red snapper" and "vermillion rockfish" are both vermilion rockfish, "blue perch" is halfmoon, and "calico" is kelp bass. Bullet tuna are small tuna that often show on longer trips. The species list below links to our page for each fish.
